He pasado las últimas semanas refinando los materiales que mostré en mi última entrada y los resultados son bastante prometedores. En el caso concreto del metal oxidado el progreso ha sido enorme, ya que ahora se trata de un material completamente procedural, es decir que no se basa en ninguna textura externa.

Los materiales completamente procedurales ofrecen ventajas como la independencia de herramientas externas, flexibilidad y unos requisitos de memoria menores que las texturas de resolución basadas en imágenes, aunque con el coste de mayores tiempos de renderizado. Por estas razones, he decidido crear una sección en este blog dedicada exclusivamente a la creación y refinamiento de materiales completamente procedurales en Cycles, que llevara el muy apropiado título de “Conocimiento Superficial”.

I’ve spent the last weeks refining the materials I showcased in my previous post and the results look really promising. Progress has been huge in the case of rusty metal, since now this material is fully procedural and doesn’t rely on any external texture.

Fully procedural materials offer the advantages of independence from external tools, flexibility and lower memory footprint than high resolution image textures at the cost of longer render times. For these reasons I’ve decided to create a section in this blog entirely dedicated to the development and refinement of fully procedural materials in Cycles, and it will be aptly titled “Surface Knowledge”.

    • We’ll see. The materials in this series are developed as the need for them arises, so there is no telling which one will be next, although for now they aim to be photorealistic.

    Besides Blender, I still use Vue. And Vue has separate files for materials (.mat), atmospheres (.atm), objects (.vob) and scenes (.vue).

    I think Blender could adopt this politic of separate files. This would allow to create a library to come within Blender. As Reaction said – August 6, 2013 at 12:52 pm – this is important to make our life a lot easier. And TO ATTRACT INEXPERIENCED USERS.

    At the beginning, Blender was a painful experience. Gradually, it became a more friendly software. It must be even more friendly in order to conquer the market. What you think?

Some retard is trying to flood my blog with hundreds of spam comments and I’m having a very hard time trying to avoid deleting real feedback like yours.
